ATHENS - A former University of Georgia professor remembered as a reserved, frugal woman has left a $1.7 million donation for the school.

Eileen Russell had lost touch with most of UGA colleagues since she retired in 1977 and moved to Florida. The only donation she ever made was for $50.

Russell taught basic physical education for female students, who took classes separate from men when she came to Georgia in 1948. Her specialty was field hockey.
The money will be used for undergraduate scholarship and graduate student assistantship in the P.E. department and sports studies in the education college.
