Whether we agree with it or not ... and I'll admit I disagree with much of it it is interesting and frustrating to watch the liberalization of values in America. Give you some examples:
The other day the New York Times announced it plans to run same-sex commitment ceremony notices alongside their wedding announcements. Gay and lesbian groups hailed the announcement as a major victory even though several other papers are already running such announcements. Mostly those running these so-called "gay marriage" announcements are recognized as liberal publications and include such newspapers as the Washington Post and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In Atlanta, they held a Black Gay Pride celebration that drew a bunch of African Americans. Among their goals, they said, was to convince the black clergy that being gay or lesbian was okay.
Then you had the bruhaha in which Miss North Carolina had posed topless, and she insisted she should not be thrown out of the Miss America contest. She really didn't see what was wrong with her actions. They threw her out anyway, but she got more press than most of the straight contestants.
The extremist women's groups are going after the Masters Golf Tournament because the Augusta National (which is a private organization and says it should be able to select its own members) does not have any women members.
All this, and more, raises a question: who sets the values for America? And who speaks for those who have conservative values?
This is Gordon Sawyer, and may the wind always be at your back.
