SUWANEE - Old Town Suwanee has been designated as a slum by the City Council. But the leaders insist it's just a formality in order to secure grants and loans to refurbish the area. <br>

Under the Urban Redevelopment Law, slum areas or those considered threatened are eligible for funding. <br>

Mayor Nick Masino said the council wants to save the area from commercialization.<br>
<br>
The area went through a renovation several years ago but this is an attempt to keep outside developers from changing the look and appeal of the area.<br>
<br>
The council passed a resolution in August declaring the area a slum.
