Hammond feels better, questionable for Game 2

By
ATLANTA - Atlanta Braves reliever Chris Hammond, who left Game One of the NL division series with a strained neck, was questionable for Game 2 against the San Francisco Giants Thursday night.

Hammond, who had a 0.95 ERA during the regular season, hurt his neck in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game when he tumbled to the ground to field a grounder by Rich Aurilia. He threw out Aurilia, but later gave up two runs, the first earned runs he allowed since June 30. The Giants won the opener of the best-of-five series 8-5.

Atlanta head trainer Dave Pursley said Hammond was being treated with muscle relaxers, massage therapy, heat and traction. Hammond didn't go on the field during batting practice.
