ATLANTA - The Atlanta Thrashers open their NHL season Friday night against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, North Carolina.<br>

In the regular season, the Thrashers have never beaten the Hurricanes, who opened Wednesday night with a 4-1 home loss to the New York Rangers.<br>

Atlanta beat Carolina twice this preseason, with 4-1 exhibition victories over the defending Eastern Conference champions in Raleigh and at Philips Arena.<br>

The Thrashers are winless in 15 regular season meetings with the Hurricanes -- losing 12 times and tying three.
