STATESBORO - Chaz Williams ran for 117 yards and three touchdowns, Anthony Williams returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a score and Mark Myers added a 92-yard touchdown run as Georgia Southern downed Appalachian State 36-20 on Saturday. <br>

Chaz Williams was one of three Eagles to gain over 100 yards, with Jermaine Austin getting 133 on 18 carries and Myers 105 on four attempts as Southern (5-2, 4-1 Southern Conference) accumulated 364 yards on the ground. <br>

It was the first league setback for the Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1) who could have dealt GSU a severe blow in its bid for a sixth straight league title. <br>

Chaz Williams scored on runs of 3 and 1 yards to erase a 10-7 deficit early in the second quarter and Scott Shelton added a 36-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 24-10 halftime lead. <br>

The Mountaineers had taken a 10-7 first-quarter lead on Mark Wright's 28-yard field goal and Joey Hoover's 6-yard run. <br>

Appalachian tried to stage a comeback in the third quarter, but settled for Wright's 27-yard field goal that trimmed the lead to 24-13 with 9:39 remaining. <br>

Myers scampered 92 yards on the first play of a drive to give the Eagles a 30-13 advantage 35 seconds into the fourth quarter. <br>

Chaz Williams got his final touchdown on a 4-yard run with only 34 seconds to play. <br>

ASU's other score came on a 2-yard run by Joe Burchette, who completed 23 of 44 passes for 206 yards.
