INDIANAPOLIS - American United Life Insurance Company said Tuesday it will eliminate as many as 200 jobs, or about one-ninth of its work force, in a cost-cutting effort.
All but 320 of AUL's employees work out of the company's 38-story office tower and other buildings in downtown Indianapolis. Other workers are scattered in 20 regional offices nationwide, and at affiliate companies in Fargo, North Dakota; Macon, Georgia; and New York and New Jersey.
The privately held insurer says most of the savings will result from staff cuts because the majority of its costs are personnel-related.
AUL cited economic conditions as the reason for the cuts.
