Hall man returns from D.C.

GAINESVILLE - A Hall County firemen, back from a conference in Washington, D.C., said Tuesday it was a very "nerve-wracking" trip because of the sniper shootings.

"Once you were outside," Lt. Scott Cagle said, "you were actually catching yourself looking over your shoulder and looking on top of buildings and bridges and stuff."

Lt. Cagle says as long as he and his party were in downtown Washington, they felt pretty safe. "But, if you got outside that area, you were pretty much on your own and there were a lot of places...for this guy (to hide) to do his bad deeds."

Cagle was in Washington last week for the National Safe Kids Conference. He commented about his trip Tuesday on The Morning Show with Joel Williams on WDUN NEWS TALK 550.

Another apparent sniper shooting was reported about 6:00 Tuesday morning at a commuter bus stop in Silver Spring, Maryland. A bus driver was shot as he stood on the steps of a bus; he died about 10:30, about four-and-a-half hours after he was shot. He suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach.
