ATHENS - The University of Georgia plans to purchase 456 acres of land in Clarke and Oglethorpe counties for the relocation of many of its agriculture facilities.
The university also announced Tuesday it will sell two acres fronting on Atlanta Highway.
The announcement came less than two weeks after Athens-Clarke County Commissioner Linda Ford sparked a discussion as to whether the university should pay Athens-Clarke County for services because as a state-owned entity, it does not pay property taxes.
The big block of land being bought includes 235 acres in Clarke County and 221 in Oglethorpe.
