Officials to remove old chemical drums from Atlanta-area park

STONE MOUNTAIN - DeKalb County will remove dozens of old chemical drums from a public park despite the state&#39;s claim that the park&#39;s safe, county officials said. <br> <br> The announcement was intended to relieve concerns after tests in June found small amounts of several contaminants from the soil in the woods at Wade Walker Park. <br> <br> ``There&#39;s absolutely no reason to shut this park down,&#39;&#39; DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones said. ``It&#39;s as safe as someone&#39;s front lawn.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Jones cited a letter from Harold Reheis, director state Environmental Protection Division, saying the park is safe. <br> <br> Some community activists want the county to shut down the park until it finishes testing the soil and water at the 100-acre park. <br> <br> County tests showed low levels of arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead and zinc.
