Falcons release Jackson

By
FLOWERY BRANCH - Wide receiver Willie Jackson -- a free agent who started only one game this season -- has been released by the Atlanta Falcons.

Jackson played in all seven games and had 18 catches for 199 yards. He signed with the Falcons in July on the same day they waived wide receiver Jeff Graham, another free agent. Graham had failed to show up for a mandatory minicamp a month after his name was listed on a federal search warrant connected to a cocaine bust in Dayton, Ohio.

Last year, Jackson set career highs with 81 receptions and one thousand and 46 yards for the New Orleans Saints. He also made 28 catches on third down, second-best in the NFC.

Atlanta (4-3) -- which has won three straight -- signed wide receiver Quentin McCord from the practice squad to replace Jackson on the 53-man roster.
