Braselton's Weaver headed for Georgia Hall of Fame

MACON - Braselton&#39;s Dewitt Weaver along with former Georgia and Chicago Bears placekicker Kevin Butler and four others will be inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in February.<br> <br> Buena Vista native Josh Gibson, who had 962 home runs and .354 batting average in 17 years as a Negro League player; golfer Weaver; high school basketball coach Wallace Childs; marathon runner Gayle Barron; and women&#39;s basketball pioneer Anne Paradise Hansford also will be inducted in the Class of 2003, Hall officials said Tuesday.<br> <br> Weaver is a seven-time winner of the Georgia PGA championship and won four Georgia Open titles. He captured two PGA tour victories and one on the Senior PGA Tour, where he still competes.<br> <br> Butler, who played for Georgia from 1981-1984, was named to the All-Century team by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Sports Illustrated. He played 13 years in the NFL and ended his career with 1,208 points.<br> <br> Barron was a five-time winner of the Peachtree Road Race, a three-time winner of the Atlanta Marathon and also won the Boston Marathon in 1978.<br> <br> Childs had more than 512 victories in 21 years of coaching at Irwinville, Blackshear, Bacon County, Glennville and Atkinson County high schools and won state titles in 1947, 1950, 1951, and 1955.<br> <br> Hansford was an AAU basketball player in the 1940s, when she played as Anne Paradise.
