Communites ask grocers not to sell eggs to young people

By
ATLANTA - Communities in Atlanta are asking grocers not to sell eggs to children or teenagers Thursday in an effort to stop egg fights on Halloween.

The assistant manager at Great Savings grocery in Atlanta's West End - Glenda Houser - says community activists made the same request last year and it cut down on eggings.

The request comes because two Halloweens ago a 12-year-old named D'Anthony Lowe was shot to death in a park in the Atlanta community of Mechanicsville. Authorities say an egg fight prompted a 14-year-old to open fire with a 9 millimeter Glock.

Police spokesman Sergeant John Quigley says egging is not a major problem across the city of Atlanta. But he says grocers can help by not selling eggs to young people Thursday.
