Cronkite chosen as host for Peabody Awards Luncheon

ATHENS - Veteran newsman Walter Cronkite was named Monday as host for the 61st Annual Peabody Awards Luncheon, to be held May 20 in New York. <br>

The University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications administers the Peabody Awards. The annual awards recognize excellence, achievement and significant and meritorious work in electronic communication. <br>
<br>
Cronkite, whose 60 years in journalism includes 50 years with CBS radio and television, received Peabody Awards in 1962 and 1980. He also has been involved with numerous Peabody-winning programs. <br>
<br>
This year's Peabody winners will be announced March 27.
