Sewage spill in Gainesville

By By Scott Grant
GAINESVILLE - About a thousand gallons of wastewater leaked into Gainesville's Longwood Park Creek after heavy rain "washed out" a sewer line Sunday.

City Environmental and Treatment Division manager Steve Payne says it wasn't a "major" spill and had no visible impact.

The wet weather and natural flow of the creek south of Washington Street and near the intersection with West Academy took care of the wastewater.

A Gainesville public utilities crew had the broken 15-foot section of the 12-inch sewer line fixed by Monday evening. It worked Tuesday to stabalize the bank around it.
