ATLANTA - Victor's Secret is closing its store at Underground Atlanta after 12 years.
The president of O'Leary Partners which manages the underground mall - Dan O'Leary - says the closing comes as a shock. His company also co-owns Underground.
O'Leary says his company offered to refurbish the Victoria's Secret store in an effort to get the lingerie retailer to stay.
A spokeswoman for Victoria's Secret says the store will close January 19th for financial reasons. Spokeswoman Marnie McLaughlin says she is unaware of any other metro Atlanta store closings for the chain.
She says employees will be offered jobs in other area stores and that she expects Underground customers to do their shopping at the chain's store at Lenox Square.
Since O'Leary Partners took over Underground in 1999, the mall has become more of a place for dining and entertainment. In the past year, O'Leary has signed eight new tenants, including a pub restaurant and a Mediterranean deli.
