Five arrested for vandalism to middle school under construction

ROME - Rome police have arrested five teen-agers in connection with $100,000 worth of damage to an unfinished middle school. <br> <br> Three boys and two girls were arrested Thursday and charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property and theft by taking. All are between 13 and 15 years old. <br> <br> Rome police Sergeant Teri Davis says other arrests are possible. <br> <br> Coosa Middle School is slated to open in the fall. Construction workers discovered the damage December 31. <br> <br> Vandals smashed windows, gouged holes in a hardwood gym floor and bashed concrete block walls with sledgehammers. <br> <br> Sinks were clogged, and floors and walls were spray painted fluorescent with graffiti and profanity. One gym wall bore the message: ``I (love) you sorry bout the mess.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> About 15 fire extinguishers also were emptied, leaving a powdery white residue throughout the building.
