Coosa Middle School is slated to open in the fall. Construction workers discovered the damage December 31.
Vandals smashed windows, gouged holes in a hardwood gym floor and bashed concrete block walls with sledgehammers.
Sinks were clogged, and floors and walls were spray painted fluorescent with graffiti and profanity. One gym wall bore the message: ``I (love) you sorry bout the mess.''
About 15 fire extinguishers also were emptied, leaving a powdery white residue throughout the building.
