AUGUSTA - A jury has found two Augusta men guilty of killing one man and wounding another when they fired into a crowd of people in August 2000.
Marco D. Appling, 22, and Antonio L. Flowers, 23, were found guilty on Friday of murder, aggravated assault and weapon charges. They are expected to get life in prison when sentenced later.
Witnesses testified during the five-day trial in Richmond County Superior Court that the armed men went to an Augusta neighborhood angry over a previous fight between a man and one of Appling's female relatives.
Appling and Flowers fired from a red Dodge Neon and then fled, witnesses said. The car was pulled over by police for speeding shortly afterward.
Minutes later, a witness arrived at the scene of the traffic stop and told the officer of the shooting. A 9mm handgun was found on the street a short distance away.
Alphonso L. Parks, 20, was shot and died two days later. Another man, James A. Overton, was wounded but recovered.
