WOODSTOCK - Veterinarians Jeff Cribb and Gregg Cohen have delivered plenty of babies puppies, kittens and large livestock.
On Friday, they were faced with their first human birth, helping to welcome Michael Julian into the world after an Acworth couple discovered they couldn't make it to the humans' hospital.
Jose Julian pulled into the Animal Hospital of West Woodstock as his wife, Natividad, was giving birth. He needed a place to park - quickly.
Cribb was examining Foofur the poodle inside when the receptionist said a couple had parked out front and were having a baby in their car. He took a look in the car and saw the baby's head.
``The closest I've ever come is 'ER' the TV show,'' Cribb said of a human delivery. ``I started to try not to panic and make sure the baby's color was good and the breathing OK - similar things we look for in our veterinary patients.''
Both vets helped out and technician Renee Reynolds climbed in the back seat to comfort the mother.
``His whole little body popped out, in one fell swoop. It was so cool,'' Cribb said.
The Julians were transferred to a Cherokee County hospital where the mother and 6.5-pound baby are in good condition.
