Report: Athens, Atlanta among 10 best college towns

ATHENS - The Princeton Review has named Atlanta and Athens among the country&#39;s top 10 college towns. <br> <br> Emory University in Atlanta is ranked second on the list of great college towns, which appears in the 2002 edition of The Princeton Review&#39;s annual guide book, ``The Best 331 Colleges.&#39;&#39; The University of Georgia ranks seventh. <br> <br> Each year, The Princeton Review, a Princeton, N.J.-based test preparation and college resource company, conducts surveys among students at colleges across the country, ranking the schools in 62 categories based on what the students say. <br> <br> This year, the list of top 10 college towns also includes New Orleans, Boston and New York City. Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. topped this year&#39;s list. <br> <br> Athens&#39; ``legendary music scene&#39;&#39; is cited and the list states the town is ``chock full of terrific clubs, excellent restaurants and fantastic coffeehouses.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> ``We think that&#39;s great news, and we agree,&#39;&#39; UGA spokesman Chuck Toney said Monday. ``Certainly, we believe one of the attractions of UGA is Athens and all the variety in town.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Art Jackson, executive director of the Athens Downtown Development Authority, agreed. Jackson said Monday that the list takes into account a diverse range of restaurants and live entertainment venues not just the number of bars downtown. <br> <br> ``It&#39;s a real honor for us,&#39;&#39; he said. ``I think it reflects well on our businesses who make our students feel welcome. It&#39;s nice to be recognized with New York and Boston.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> The Princeton Review list ranks Athens above the University of California in Berkeley, Tulane University in New Orleans, La., and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
