ATLANTA - The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and a Houston developer announced Tuesday they would team to build a new Symphony Center and two residential towers at a prominent Midtown intersection.
The ASO board also approved three key members of a design team for the two interlinked projects on 6.2 acres at Peachtree and 14th streets.
The two-part project would be linked to the Woodruff Arts Center by a park offering arts patrons a place to eat and entertain before and after concerts.
Houston-based Hines will be responsible for the first visible part of the project, a 35- to 40-story condominium building to be completed by mid-2005. The second tower, scheduled to open in 2008, would include hotel space. Plans for the buildings include ground-level retail shops.
The Symphony Center - also to open in 2008 - would have a 2,200-seat concert hall for performances and rehearsals, plus educational and administrative facilities.
