Sudden illness kills Poynter

CONYERS - Randy Poynter, a former chairman of the county commissioners&#39; association and the Atlanta Regional Commission, has died after a sudden illness. <br> <br> The 47-year-old Poynter also was a candidate for lieutenant governor in 1998. <br> <br> His wife called paramedics yesterday reporting that he was unable to breathe. An autopsy is pending. <br> <br> Poynter, an Indiana native, began his political career in 1989 when he was elected to the Rockdale County Commission. He later served as chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission and of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia. <br> <br> He is survived by his wife and two sons.
