Suspect in S.C. man's death was living in Gainesville

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A third person has been arrested and charged in connection with the July slaying of a 71-year-old man who was found in his home. <br>

Randy Bates, 37, was charged Monday with misprision of a felony and could face charges of accessory after the fact, police said. Police say Bates was staying with family members in Gainesville.<br>

Georgia authorities arrested Bates on Saturday and turned him over to Dorchester deputies, Lt. Jimmy Nettles said. Police say Bates had lied to them during previous interviews about George Clifton Moore's death. <br>

Moore was found stabbed to death on July 16 inside his Dorchester mobile home Investigators think Moore was robbed. <br>
<br>
Bates' arrest follows a six-month investigation that has netted three arrests. <br>
<br>
Bates' brother, Jeffrey Wayne Bates, 38, was charged Jan. 16 with accessory to murder after the fact. <br>
<br>
Gloria Jean Hart was charged with murder on Aug. 4 and has been denied bail. <br>
<br>
Detectives linked Hart to the slaying after learning she frequented the store where Moore's truck was found. Witnesses also told police Hart carried a wad of cash and sported new clothes days after Moore's death.
