SEOUL, South Korea - South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. will jointly develop and manufacture electrically powered vehicles with UTC Fuel Cells of the United States, Hyundai officials said Wednesday.
Hyundai's sister company, Kia Motors Corp., also joined in the deal as a partner, Hyundai said in a news release.
Hyundai gave no further details.
Hyundai and UTC last March succeeded in developing a sports utility vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel cells. But the vehicle, fully charged, can travel only 100 miles.
Electric cars emit none of the exhaust fumes that are a major cause of global warming.
