KINGSLAND - Authorities say a 13-year-old in southeast Georgia apparently was shot to death by a younger playmate who picked up a loaded hunting rifle that accidentally discharged.
A spokeswoman with the Camden County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that Richard Will Swain was shot in the head. Officers also found several other loaded firearms in the victim's home.
The mother of the ten-year-old who apparently picked up the rifle says her son ``swears he did not touch the trigger.''
She says her son had spent the night at the victim's home and that the gun was lying on the dresser in the victim's bedroom. She says she was driving to pick up her son when the shooting happened about noon Sunday. She says the victim's father came running out of the house screaming.
Authorities have not released the name of the ten-year-old. The mother says her son has no knowledge of firearms and would not have known how to load the gun.
The victim's father was home when the shooting happened, but the boys were alone in the victim's bedroom. An assistant district attorney George Turner says his office has not reviewed police reports and he could not say whether any charges will be filed.
