Mark Richt gets contract extension and pay raise

ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia coach Mark Richt was given a one-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep him with the Bulldogs through the 2006 season.

Georgia also gave Richt a $50,000 raise for 2002, increasing his total pay package to $800,000. The school did not immediately release salary figures for the rest of the contract.

Richt coached the Bulldogs to an 8-4 record in his first year, including a berth in the Music City Bowl, where Georgia lost to Boston College.

Georgia athletic director Vince Dooley said Richt impressed him, citing key wins on the road against rivals Georgia Tech and Tennessee.
