AUBURN, ALABAMA - Auburn got boxed out of Wednesday's game against Mississippi State.

Mississippi State (17-4, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) defeated the Tigers (9-10, 1-7) by a score of 72-64.

The Bulldogs outrebounded Auburn 45-28 and made more second-chance points.

``We just basically got outrebounded tonight,'' said Auburn's Lewis Monroe, who didn't score in five tries. ``I feel like we played good, but if we could have gotten some of those rebounds and tips to go our way, it would have been a different ball game.''

Auburn has now lost five in a row.

The Tigers couldn't stop Mario Austin, who scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

``I think Austin is the best center in the country, he was very tough and physical and he's just a hard player to defend,'' said Marco Killingsworth, who had seven points.

The game was Mississippi State's first league road victory of the year.

Three other Mississippi State players scored in double figures. They were Michal Ignerski with 13 points, Timmy Bowers with 12 and Marckell Patterson with 10.

``We knew we had to come in the game and get a road win,'' Austin said. ``It was a tough and physical game. I had to work hard to get a shot because Kyle Davis is a very good shot blocker.''

Davis had three of Auburn's seven first-half blocked shots. The Tigers blocked two more in the second half.

Mississippi State put the game away with an 8-0 run with 8:53 left to play to make the score 59-50.

The Tigers were outrebounded 45-28.

Auburn was led by Marquis Daniels with 16 points and Derrick Bird with 14 points.
Going into the game, Auburn had won nine of its last 10 against Mississippi State.
