Lawrenceville introduces new "Bike Unit"

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Lawrenceville Police Department introduced a new Bicycle Unit earlier this week.

A social media post by the department said the new unit was unveiled during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon on the Lawrenceville Lawn. Police officials said the goal of the bicycles is to give officers better agility and accessibility in the city's parks, neighborhoods and downtown area.

Officials said there are currently three bicycles in the unit with one sergeant and two officers, but they plan to add more in the future.

"The Lawrenceville Police Bicycle Unit is a strategic addition to the department's efforts in fostering stronger ties with the community and promoting proactive policing," the post said. "This initiative aligns with the department's mission to 'build a safer Lawrenceville through community engagement and professional police services.'"

Officials also said the unit would give the department increased visibility and help address public safety concerns.
