Harvest Gwinnett offering garden plots to residents

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

Harvest Gwinnett is offering county residents a spot at one of its nine community gardens.

Applications are open for a four-foot by eight-foot garden raised platform garden plot. Harvest Gwinnett provides water, tools, soil, mulch, and educational resources at each site, according to a press release.

Gardeners are responsible for maintaining and harvesting their garden spots. They are also required to volunteer 12 hours of community service to maintain common areas.

“Cultivating these sustainable gardens continues to yield fantastic results,” said Brad Livesay, program supervisor for Harvest Gwinnett in the press release. “Not only do the gardens provide a hands-on opportunity for families to grow their own fresh produce, but, with the shared rows, they’re also helping to close the meal gap for residents facing food insecurity.”

Gardeners of all skill levels are welcome. Live Healthy Gwinnett offers a variety of gardening programs for all ages, including Gardening 101 and Pest Management.

Community gardens are located at:

  • Dacula Park (205 Dacula Road, Dacula)
  • E. E. Robinson Park (885 Level Creek Road, Sugar Hill)
