BUFORD - Hall County Sheriff's Office dive team members have recovered the body of a 28-year-old drowning victim.<br />

The body of Jacob Thomas of Atlanta was discovered Monday morning near the Sunset Cove docks in about 48-feet of water, according to Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes.<br />

Bailes said the DNR had brought side-scan sonar to search the lake. "They detected a target... once we get the location of the target, then we will send divers down to inspect and see what that target may be. So this morning, we were lucky to locate and retrieve the body of 28-year-old Jacob Thomas," Bailes said.<br />

"We're still going based off of initial reports," Bailes said. "At about 1:30 Sunday night, he was with friends and apparently they were... consuming alcohol on the docks at Sunset Cove. This individual fell off of the docks and struck his head on a boat and fell into the water and was unable to be retrieved by the friends that were there with him."<br />

Bailes said his body will be sent to the GBI lab for autopsy to ensure witness reports are accurate.
