City of Gainesville, Salvation Army helping the less fortunate

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The city of Gainesville is embarking on a new program with the Salvation Army called Help 2 Others.

The city is partnering with the Salvation Army's Project SHARE to raise money to assist Gainesville Public Utilities customers in need through a round-up program.

Through Help 2 Others, any city of Gainesville water customer may choose to have his or her bill "rounded up" to the nearest dollar with the extra money being distributed to help "those facing financial difficulty."

An announcement about the program was included in this month's water bills along with a form that can be used to sign up to participate. The forms can be returned to the city by mail (City of Gainesville, PO Box 779, Gainesville, Ga. 30503), by fax (678-989-3379) or by email ([email protected]). People wishing to participate can also sign up on the city's website at http://www.gainesville.org/form/water-bill/. All contributions are tax deductible and anyone signing up can opt out of the program at any time.
