GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police are investigating an armed robbery at The Retreat on McEver apartment complex, an incident that happened just hours before an attempted robbery of a cab driver Friday morning at the same address.
Officer Kevin Holbrook said the first incident happened around noon Thursday at 1050 Eagle Eye Road.
"A vendor was there restocking vending machines when he was approached by a black male, approximately 5'10", 170 lbs, of a medium build," said Holbrook.
The vendor told police he saw that the suspect had a handgun, and he turned over the money to him. Holbrook said canine units were called to track the suspect and nearby Gainesville Elementary School was locked down for a short time during the event.
Just hours after that armed robbery, another suspect attempted to rob a cab driver at the same apartment complex. Holbrook said the description of the suspect in that incident is similar to that of the suspect in the vendor robbery.
