WINDER - Barrow County investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in the 400 block of Laythan Court in Winder Tuesday afternoon.
Barrow County Fire Department Lt. Scott Dakin said firefighters were called to scene just before 1:30 p.m. and began attacking the fire from inside the home.
"However, due to the amount of fire already in the attic and first floor of the house, the crews were forced to back out and do an exterior attack," said Dakin.
The house was destroyed by the fire, but firefighters were able to save vehicles parked in the garage of the home, according to Dakin. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family. Two adults and three children were displaced by the fire.
