Teen's murder case bound over to Gwinnett Superior Court

LAWRENCEVILLE - Murder and aggravated assault charges against a Braselton teen accused of killing her mother were bound over to Gwinnett Superior Court after a probable cause hearing Friday.

The lawyer for the 15-year-old girl accused of killing her mother, Karen Moore, 42, said the girl's boyfriend had given her a deadline, and vowed to break up with her if she didn't meet him that night. Her mother apparently told the girl she could not leave the home.

Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis said in the court hearing Friday the girl told police she grabbed a gun from her room. Solis said the girl recalled asking her mother what time it was and, realizing it was getting late, shot her mother and then left to meet her boyfriend.

The girl and her boyfriend, 17-year-old Christopher Nieves, apparently returned to the home that night where the two had sex in the girl's room and stayed the night. Nieves is not believed to have known about the mother's body lying on the couch in another room.

It wasn't until the next day that the teenager went for help.

Moore's husband and son, both Army reservists, were stationed in Alabama and were not at the home at the time of the April 6 shooting.

The judge in the case has not decided yet if the girl will be tried as an adult.
