Gainesville joins fuel co-op

By Jerry Gunn
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council Thursday approved an invitation from Gwinnett County to join a North Georgia fuel cooperative to enable member cities and counties to buy fuel in bulk at cheaper prices.

Councilman Bob Hamrick also suggested forming an energy audit committee for closer monitoring of city electrical use.

The proposals came as Council looked at less sales tax revenue and dropping impact fee revenues, a direct result of the struggling economy.

OFFICIAL SEALS FOR NEW POLICE AND FIRE H.Q.

Gainesville is clearing ground for its new police and fire department buildings off Queen City Parkway; Fire Chief Jon Canada and Police Chief Frank Hooper told City Council they want the new building lobbies properly decorated.

Chief Hooper wants the Police Department Seal etched in the lobby floor.

"That is a challenge coin we did about four years ago that incorporatedour badge and the American flag and also has our motto on there, which is Proud to Serve," Chief Hooper said.

Chief Canada wants a traditional Fire Department Maltese Cross displayed in the new Fire Department lobby.
Both buildings are scheduled for completion in about eighteen months.
