GAINESVILLE - Riverside Military Academy alumnus Ira J. Middleberg has been named to the academy's board of trustees.

Middleberg, a New Orleans attorney, graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1966. He went on to earn degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and the Loyola University Law School.

Middleberg is a senior partner with the firm of Middleberg Riddle and Gianna, which has offices in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., and Dallas and Austin, Texas. The firm handles regulatory and compliance matters for mortgage bankers and represents several Fortune 500 companies in their corporate defense, regulatory and environmental matters. Middleberg currently serves as special counsel to the attorney general of Louisiana.

Middleberg came to Riverside Military Academy as a student seeking a better educational environment.

"I made the decision from a very young age, that if I was ever going anywhere in life, I'd better start looking at the educational process," he said. Middleberg noted that his experience at Riverside Military Academy taught him the discipline he needed to succeed in college and professionally.

"As we prepare for the academy's centennial in 1907, we are honored to have Ira Middleberg join our board of trustees," Col. Michael Hughes, superintendent, said. "His perspective as an alumnus and a successful business leader enhances the leadership of our board."
