GAINESVILLE - A number of Gainesville area business and government leaders have traveled to Spain this week for the 2002 Sprint Canoe/Kayak World Championships - as Gainesville prepares to host next year's competition.
William Bagwell of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce says the group - as representatives of the host city for next year's event - will participate in a special ceremony at the end of the championships in Seville.
"There will be a ceremony and they will get a flag...to bring back," Bagwell said. "It's a well-rounded group, obviously, of between 40 and 50 community individuals that have gone over there."
Bagwell also said that there may be some informal industry-hunting while the delegation is in Spain.
