LAWRENCEVILLE - A 15-year-old girl was babysitting two small children Friday, ages 2 and 3, and all three had fallen asleep in an upstairs room. The girl woke up and found the house engulfed in smoke.

Fortunately, everyone was able to get out of the house unharmed. The girl took the two children to a neighbor's house and called 9-1-1 around 4:15 p.m.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Fire Department, none of them were hurt.

The smoke alarms in the family's rented home were not working.

The fire caused "extensive damage to the interior of the home and contents" according to the release.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, and the cause of the fire remains unknown, although it appears accidental.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family at this time.
