Lawrenceville babysitter wakes up to house fire

LAWRENCEVILLE - A 15-year-old girl was babysitting two small children Friday, ages 2 and 3, and all three had fallen asleep in an upstairs room. The girl woke up and found the house engulfed in smoke.<br /> <br /> Fortunately, everyone was able to get out of the house unharmed. The girl took the two children to a neighbor's house and called 9-1-1 around 4:15 p.m.<br /> <br /> According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Fire Department, none of them were hurt.<br /> <br /> The smoke alarms in the family's rented home were not working.<br /> <br /> The fire caused "extensive damage to the interior of the home and contents" according to the release.<br /> <br /> Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, and the cause of the fire remains unknown, although it appears accidental.<br /> <br /> The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family at this time.
