New jobless claims rise unexpectedly; Ga. job losses 200K
The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly for the second straight week, an indication that jobs remain scarce. Meanwhile, the Georgia Department of Labor reports that job losses in Georgia for the 12 monrths ending July 31 totaled 200,000.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported today that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.3 percent in July, up two-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 10.1 percent in June.
