In a year when the Lakeview Academy baseball teams feels it can recapture the magic of its 2004 state title run, the Lions put themselves in a position to grab first place in Region 8-A after knocking off Athens Academy 9-8 Wednesday at Lions Field.

Dawson County swept the boys and girls golf matches with Jackson County Thursday at the Traditions Golf Course.

Apalachee shut out last year's NEGA Mountains Cup tournament champion West Hall 2-0 Saturday night to win the 2008 boys' title. In the 3rd-place match, Johnson defeated Buford, 2-0, and in the Consolation match, Chestatee beat Winder-Barrow 6-0.
