DECATUR -- The East Hall boys soccer team gave No. 4 Druid Hills all it could handle Thursday night in the first round of the Class AAA soccer tournament. But Druid Hills scored in the final 10 minutes of the game to pull out a 2-1 win over the Vikings.

Sophomore Randy Otis pitched five solid innings to lead the Lumpkin County baseball team to a 6-1 win over West Hall Wednesday at West Hall Field.

Zach Bennett continued his mastery of Region 7-AAA tossing a complete-game, three-hitter in leading Gainesville to a 10-1 win over East Hall Wednesday. Bennett struck out 10 and walked just one allowing just one hit after back-to-back doubles in the first inning.

The Gainesville baseball team kept pace with Flowery Branch in Region 7-AAA after pounding out a 14-2, five inning win over Chestatee Saturday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Georgia Tech's athletic director said Saturday there was no sign of drug use by pitcher Michael Hutts, even though a police report indicated the junior may have taken heroin before his death.

Mike Hampton is still a bit timid about his long-delayed comeback. The Braves left-hander, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2005, had another stint in the bullpen prior to Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hampton threw about 50 pitches, with no pain in the pectoral muscle that sent him to the disabled list.
