Baseball: Regular season wraps up on Friday

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Friday is the final day of the regular season for the Georgia High School Association, and for the 26 northeast Georgia programs in the AccessWDUN coverage area, it's all settled but for a handful of teams.

Banks County (18-8, 10-3 Region 8-2A) can clinch the region title with one win over rival Union County (6-16, 2-11 Region 8-2A) in a scheduled doubleheader in Blairsville. However, a Panthers sweep would knock the Leopards to second behind Providence Christian heading into next week's first round playoff action. East Jackson (14-13, 8-7 Region 8-2A) had a chance for the No. 2 spot but dropped a doubleheader to Providence on Thursday and finished third in the region.

But those are just two of a dozen teams that clinched playoff berths across the eight classifications in the GHSA.

North Forsyth (20-9, 14-3 Region 8-6A) and Jackson County (10-19, 5-12 Region 8-6A) both will close out their Region 8-6A schedules on Friday. The Raiders already have clinched the No. 2 seed while  the Panthers were eliminated from the postseason earlier this week.

Lumpkin County in Region 7-3A (13-15, 7-10 Region 7-3A) can play spoiler against Wesleyan (14-12, 10-7 Region 7-3A). An Indians' win would give Dawson County (16-9, 10-7 Region 7-3A) the No. 2 seed.
