Baseball: Bluff can take control in 8-4A North while NoFo and Apalachee battle for 8-6A

Region 8-4A is beginning to take shape while Region 8-6A continues to be a dogfight atop the standings heading into some key showdowns on Friday.

In Region 8-4A North, sixth-ranked Cherokee Bluff clinched its crucial series with seventh-ranked North Hall on Wednesday with its second straight win in their three-game series. Game 3 will be Friday at Lynn Cottrell Field. The Bears (18-4, 6-2 Region 8-4A North) have a one game lead over the Trojans (10-12, 5-3 Region 8-4A North) and now own the head-to-head tiebreaker. In Region 8-4A South, Seckinger (15-9, 11-1 Region 8-4A South) already has clinched the top spot in the subregion and a home playoff series in the state tournament.

Meanwhile, fifth-ranked East Forsyth (15-6, 6-4 Region 8-4A North) has clinched a top-three spot in the subregion and has finished its subregion schedule.

In Region 8-6A, Apalachee  (14-10, 10-2 Region 8-6A) and North Forsyth (16-7, 10-2 Region 8-6A) are still tied for first place but now they lead third place Habersham Central (15-6, 7-5 Region 8-6A).by three games. Apalachee and North Forsyth will meet in Bethlehem and they split a pair of games last month. Friday's showdown will be for the season series and a one game lead in the standings.

And Habersham Central will head to Ivey-Watson Field to take on Gainesville (8-11, 5-7 Region 8-6A) with Raiders holding a two-game lead over the Red Elephants and Jackson County (9-14, 5-7 Region 8-6A). The Panthers will not be action until Monday when they play host to Gainesville.
