A Duluth woman was arrested Tuesday after police said her 12-year-old son was spotted in the open trunk of her moving car over the weekend.

A release from the Gwinnett County Police Department Wednesday said Diana Denise Shaffer, age 36, was arrested on reckless conduct and seat belt violation charges for the incident, which reportedly took place on Sunday.

Officials said the investigation started when a woman reported a video she had seen on social media.

"In the video, a child is seen in the trunk of a Dodge passenger car as it is being driven on a roadway," Wednesday's release said. "It was unclear exactly where it was filmed or when the incident occurred. There was a large object in the trunk along with the child."

Detectives ultimately used FLOCK cameras to determine that the vehicle was traveling in the area of Pleasant Hill Road and Shackleford Road. They then met with Shaffer and learned that the item in the trunk was a baby bassinet that she had recently purchased through an online marketplace. She reportedly told police that she had the boy ride in the trunk to hold the item in place.

Shaffer was arrested and the boy was briefly placed into the custody of a family member until Shaffer later bonded out of the Gwinnett County Jail Wednesday morning.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
