Gwinnett police to host hiring event in October

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Gwinnett County Police Department will be hosting a hiring event in Lawrenceville the first weekend in October.

The department announced the event Tuesday, saying it will be held on Saturday, October 7 at the county's police training center on Winder Highway.

Anyone interested in applying for a position is encouraged to attend. While registration is encouraged ahead of the event, officials said those who wish to apply without an appointment should arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. due to the length of the application process.

The event will walk applicants through the first phase of the county's hiring process, including an orientation, a physical agility test, an oral interview, a psychological exam and a background check. Those who qualify after that phase will be given a conditional job offer with the second phase of the hiring process coming at a later time. Officials said the total process usually takes around 90 days.

Police officials said the county offers a $4,700 hiring incentive as well as a $2,000 relocation incentive for those who move to Gwinnett County. Applicants must be a United States citizen, be 21 years old by the time they graduate the police training academy, be eligible for P.O.S.T. Certification, have a valid driver's license and have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

More information on the county's hiring process for police officers can be found on the Gwinnett County website.
