Just weeks after cutting the ribbon on the new Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in downtown Gainesville, Capstone Property Group has announced plans to also develop a Residence Inn hotel off Limestone Parkway in the city.
Jeff Payne, chairman of developer Capstone Property Group, said the hotel will be located on White Sulphur Road adjacent to Xtreme Clean Auto Spa, near the Kroger shopping plaza.
"The location has so many restaurants that people can walk to from the hotel that we felt like that was a good location near I-985 to put a different product," Payne said.
The hotel will feature 90 rooms, with a combination of one-bedroom suites, king rooms and double queen rooms. It will have a pool and will serve free breakfast daily to those staying at the hotel.
Payne said it aims to support Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville, Lake Lanier Olympic Park, and the J. Melvin Cooper Youth Athletic Complex.
"It's a higher-end extended stay product for people, mainly business travelers, who are here for several days or several weeks doing a project, or families who come for the baseball games they're going to do at 'The Coop,'" Payne said. "That was a niche that wasn't being served in Gainesville."
Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2024, with the hotel opening in Fall 2025.
"We're excited to bring this new product to Gainesville, and hopefully it will be a good addition to the community," Payne said.
The announcement follows discussions by city and county officials in recent years about the need for more hotel space.
"The Convention and Visitors Bureau has seen a need for more hotel rooms, even with the one that we just completed downtown," Payne said. "We've been talking to them over the last six months or a year and looking at other options."
