Baseball: Regions 8-6A, 8-4A offer key series during Spring Break

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

With Spring Break upon for most school systems, it is a light week overall on the diamond. But that doesn't mean there aren't some key series' on tap around the area beginning on Monday.

Region 8-6A is in full swing with only Gainesville off from region play until Friday. The top two teams in the region -- North Forsyth (16-6, 11-0 Region 8-6A) and Lanier (15-6, 8-4 Region 8-6A) -- will open a two-game series in Sugar Hill. The real battle is for second, third, and fourth. Habersham Central (12-9, 6-5 Region 8-6A) and Jackson County (9-14, 6-5 Region 8-6A) are tied for third with Apalachee (9-12, 5-6 Region 8-6A) just a game back. Habersam Central travels to Apalachee on Monday with a return to Mt. Airy on Wednesday. Jackson County plays host to Shiloh (4-15, 0-12 Region 8-6A), which has lost 14 straight, and the two teams play again on Wednesday in Snellville.

Region 8-4A North also has two big series with No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Cherokee Bluff (20-0, 6-0 Region 8-4A North) playing host to North Hall (13-7, 3-3 Region 8-4A North) in a huge series. The Bears can just about wrap up a region title with a sweep of the Trojans, which would also put North Hall in a precarious playoff position.

East Forsyth (12-9, 5-4 Region 8-4A North) is currently second in the subregion and takes on East Hall (4-14, 0-6 Region 8-4A North), which is still looking for its first subregion win.

On the South side of 8-4A, No. 2 North Oconee (17-2, 6-0 Region 8-4A South) and No. 6 Walnut Grove (14-6, 4-2 Region 8-4A South) open a series for first place in Bogart on Monday.
