GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Cohen Miller singled in a pair of runs in the sixth as part of a four-run inning to help propel Chestatee to a 9-7 come-from-behind win over Gainesville on Monday at Ivey-Watson Field.

The War Eagles (3-2) led 2-0 in the second but Gainesville (2-3) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning and then scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to push its lead to 6-3. Chestatee scratched for two runs in the fifth before the big sixth inning.

The Bears got a huge 6-run seventh inning to rally for the road win for their second win over the Danes, a Class 7A playoff team from a year ago.

Jacob Vokal scored on a passed ball to give Bluff (4-0) a 5-4 lead and then Ethan England doubled in three runs for insurance. The Danes scored a run and got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but Vokal, who got the win in relief, got a ground out to end it.

Braxton Beal started and lasted four innings giving up four runs on four hits and walked two. Vokal went the final three innings allowing one run on two hits and fanned three.

Ethan England and Bryce England both had two hits and three RBI for Cherokee Bluff. Vokal, Brett House, Landon Kemp, Kaden Thompson, and Caleb Miele all had one hit for the Bears.

LOGANVILLE 6,
BUFORD 2

The Wolves (1-2) continued their brutal opening with a loss to the 2022 Class 5A state champion Red Devils, their second game against a defending state champ so far.

They will play host to defending Class 7A state champion Woodstock, who beat them 4-3 in 8 innings last week, again on Friday at Gerald McQuaig Stadium.

Buford managed only one hit against six Loganville pitchers. Cannon Goldin got a two-run single in the fifth scoring Brice Reynolds and Cole Taylor, who both had reached on errors, after the Red Devils (2-0) already led 5-0.

Loganville got all the runs it would need in a four-run third inning, getting three hits, three walks, a hit batter, and two costly Buford errors.

Jacob Nixon took the loss for Buford, allowing four runs, just two earned, on one hit and two walks.
