A third suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with the October 2022 shooting death of a Jefferson High School football player outside Sugarloaf Mills Mall in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said Kpadeh Jones, 19, of Lawrenceville, was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and charged with malice murder in the Oct. 5, 2022, murder of Elijah Dewitt, 17, of Jefferson.

Two other suspects, Kemare Bryan and Chandler Richardson, both of Lawrenceville, were previously arrested in October 2022 in the days following the murder. They were arrested in Anderson County, South Carolina, and extradited to Gwinnett County.

Police previously told AccessWDUN that officers responded to a "person shot call" at about 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2022, at 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

They found DeWitt dead with a gunshot wound in the parking lot near the Dave & Busters.

DeWitt was a senior wide receiver/cornerback on the Jefferson football team and was having a breakout season for the Dragons before his death. He had started all six games that took place prior to the shooting.
